New credit card scam hits area

Several local banks have reported a scam is circulating through the area.

According to police, customers at Old National Bank, German American Bank and Freedom Bank have received messages that their Visa Debit Cards have been locked.

The text messages include a phone number to call to unlock the card. This is a scam text message and no action should be taken.

If you receive this text message, please do not call the phone number and delete the message. If you received the message and took any action in which you gave your debit card information or other confidential, personal information, please contact your bank.

Also, law enforcement officers would like to remind folks not to give out personal information over the phone.
