Nearly full moon night hike at the Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge
Join us for an autumn evening under the moonlight at the Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge. Experience the sights and sounds of the Refuge as we hike under a bright, 92% illuminated waxing gibbous moon. The event will take place on Saturday, October 24, at 8 pm CDT at the Boyd Station at Snakey Point Marsh. Please arrive by 7:45 pm CDT.
The hike is about 3.5 miles roundtrip at a moderate, easy-going pace. Late October evenings can be cold, so warm, layered clothing, hat, and gloves are suggested. Sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots, a headlamp or flashlight, insect repellent, and a water bottle are essential.
The hike is open to all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult. This hike is specifically for the guided night hike, and no other areas of the Refuge may be accessed on this evening. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to visit the Refuge after dark under the light of a full moon.
