Always a dedicated worker, her employment throughout the years included the now-famous Uhl Pottery, Whirlpool defense plant during World War II, General Electric, Songer’s Family Restaurant, the Co-Op, and the City of Huntingburg.
Marie married Herman Schaeffer — a decorated soldier who marched through North Africa, Italy, and France through two and one half uninterrupted years during World War II — in 1945 and remained married until Herman’s death in 1970.
During Marie’s nearly 98 years of life, she was well known for her jovial personality and her liking of everyone. Full of life and beaming with personality, Marie stands as an icon in the community of Huntingburg.
