Nancy Clare Sherer, 84, Denham Springs, La.

Nancy Clare Sherer, 84, passed away on October 3, 2026, in Denham Springs, Louisiana.

She was born on December 18, 1941, in Dodge City, KS, to Jack and Mildred (Justice) White.

Nancy graduated from Dodge City High School in 1960, earned an Associate of Arts in 1962 at Dodge City Community College, and a BS in Education from Pittsburg State University in 1964. She started her career as a teacher in 1966 and ran her own preschool in her home for 22 years. She took a position as RSVP Director from 1992 to 1994. She then took her last job as director of the DCCC Child Development Center from 1994 until her retirement in 2007. She dedicated her life to providing a happy, safe, encouraging and comfortable learning environment for children, filled with caring caregivers, laughter and positive guidance. 

She married V. James Sherer on June 9, 1963, in Dodge City, Kansas.

Nancy was best known for quilting and her membership in PEO and Daughters of the American Revolution (Dodge City and Dubois County).

Nancy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City for 50 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristin (Sherer) Miller (Christopher) of Manhattan, Kansas; son, Dr. Ryan Sherer (Dr. Rachelle) of Anchorage, Ak.; son, Tyler Sherer of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Kerri (Sherer) Kannady (Chad) of Denham Springs, La..; grandchildren, Cale Miller, Alexandra Miller, Emma (Miller) Powell (Mark), Evalyn Sherer, Wyatt Sherer, Dorothy Sherer and Ruth Sherer, Cooper Sherer and Charlie Sherer, Caden Kannady, Patrick Kannady, and Abigail Kannady; great-grandchildren: Laken Miller and Elijah Powell.

She is preceded in death by her parents, loving spouse, V. James Sherer, and her siblings, Joe Pat White and Jack Lee White.

The funeral service for Nancy Sherer will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Dodge City. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on October 16, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Dodge City.
