Nancy Ann Bolte, 84, Newburgh

Nancy Ann Bolte, 84, of Newburgh, passed away April 11, 2024.

She was born in Petersburg, IN to the late Myron and Otillia Whitelock.

Nancy was married to James Bolte, July 7, 1962, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg, where she served for many years as organist.

In 1956, she was chosen Miss Pike County Fair Queen. In 1957, she graduated from Petersburg High School. She received her undergraduate degree in elementary education at Oakland City University and earned a Master’s Degree in education from Indiana State University.

Nancy taught elementary school for two years at Allendale, Ill. and then taught second grade for an additional 35 years in the Pike County School Corporation. After retirement, Nancy moved to Newburgh, IN., where she volunteered for an additional 10 years as an elementary school teaching assistant at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Newburgh, and served as a member of the church bereavement committee for several years.

Nancy was co-owner of Bolte Music Center/Radio Shack and Shoe Fashions and Men’s Wear in Petersburg and enjoyed being a merchandise buyer for the shoe store.

Nancy’s hobbies included reading, boating and exercise. Nancy travelled with her family throughout the US, Caribbean and Europe. She was an avid IU basketball fan.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities.

Nancy is survived by her husband, James Bolte of Newburgh; two daughters, Kim (Alan) Ciukowski of Knoxville, Tenn. and Christine (Lyle) Oxley of Newburgh; three grandchildren, David Ciukowski of Covington, Ky., and Luke and Kayla Oxley of Newburgh.

A viewing will be held at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (EST) on Thursday, April 18. A funeral mass will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg at 11:30 a.m. EST on Friday, April 19 th with graveside services following at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.
