Murele B. Ahrens, 78, of Jasper, passed away peacefully at 8:51 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at her daughter’s home in Cannelton, Indiana.

Murele was born in Portersville, Ind., on March 3, 1939, to Charles and Arletha (Sturgeon) Neukam. She married Kenneth “Zeke” Ahrens Jr. on October 23, 1954. He preceded her in death on August 1, 1984.

She worked for Kimball International (Stylemasters) for over 40 years. She was a member of the Women of the Petersburg Moose. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching NASCAR racing, reading books and doing puzzles, and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Hess (Harold) of Cannelton and Renee Goepferich (John) of Holland; six sons, Kenneth Ahrens III (Darlene) of Corydon, Mitch Ahrens of Jasper, Keith Ahrens (Pamela) of Jasper, Tony Ahrens (Christy) of Jasper, Christopher Ahrens of Tell City and Nathan Ahrens (Evelene) of San Diego, Calif.; 27 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Dedrick of Petersburg; three brothers, Carl Neukam (Helen) of Birdseye, Junior Neukam (Barb) of Jasper and James Neukam of Huntingburg.

Preceding her in death besides her husband was one daughter, Debra Healy, and one great-great-grandson, Zane Ahrens.

Funeral Services for Murele B. Ahrens will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper with burial to follow in the Jasper Enlow City Cemetery.  Pastor Ben Hartwig will officiate.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service time on Saturday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel.
