Municipalities issue visitation restrictions to public properties, offices

Local municipalities have issued restrictions for government offices as part of the response to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Huntingburg issued a press release today announcing it would limit access to city offices for the foreseeable future. Only essential meetings will take place. if meetings are needed, they would prefer telephone conferencing rather than face-to-face interactions. The city can be reached at 812-683-2211. Utility customers can make their payments through the drive-thru window on the east side of City Hall. Limited service for issues not related to utility payments will be conducted at the entrance to City Hall.

The Dubois County Commissioners passed a resolution at their meeting Monday restricting visitors to any county-owned properties as well. Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms, anyone who has been exposed to someone who has or may have COVID-19 is asked to not enter county offices unless court-ordered to do so. County employees are also authorized to take visitors’ temperature and anyone exhibiting symptoms can be ordered off the county properties.

The Town of Ferdinand is also taking the steps to minimize the potential spread of the virus. Officials are asking that residents use the drive-thru to conduct regular business such as dropping off payments or purchasing trash stickers. “This provides convenience for our residents, while also offering an extra layer of protection for our employees,” according to the press release.

If you do have business that requires coming inside, be it obtaining permit forms or establishing a utility account, the town asks that you do a self-check of your temperature prior to arrival. Anyone with a temperature above 99.8 is asked to please stay home out of respect to the health of the town’s employees. “

“If there is no option but to come in, we ask persons call ahead at 812-367-2282 and explain what you need, so our staff may prepare those items, then use our drive-thru to pick up or drop off documents.”

The Town Hall will remain open and maintain normal hours of operation for as long as is feasible, but this could be revised in rather short order, pending changes in the COVID-19 status.

The City of Jasper issued a notice on its Facebook Page stating they are continuing to monitor the pandemic and its impact on the community. The asked residents to conduct all utility business through the drive-thru window while some service issues unable be handled through the drive-thru can be handled in the utility office.
