Municipal water and sewer supplier moving into Carter Lumber building in Huntingburg

Utility Supply Company is quickly gearing up the vacant Carter Lumber building on the north side of Huntingburg to become its most recent expansion site.

“We needed a hub down here to handle our accounts basically south of Highway 50 and west of Highway 65 in Southern Indiana,” said Jason Fraser, General Manager. “We looked at the empty Fastenal building in Jasper, but it was too small. We even looked at a site in Ireland, but we determined this was the best site for the expansion.”

The location was chosen due to its visibility, access to the highway, and the amount of storage on the site. “It’s actually a little bigger than what we were looking for, but it covers all of our needs,” Fraser explained.

Utility Supply Company supplies underground water, sewer, and storm drainage products to municipalities and the general public and has two locations in Indianapolis and one in Peru, Indiana. The family owned company was founded in 1962 and prides itself in having hard to find parts and excellent service.

The new facility is planning on opening up in Mid-June and things are underway to hit that deadline. “Immediately after we closed on the sale of this building we came down and started to renovate it for our use.” Fraser said.

A lot of renovation has been required. The main building has been turned into a storage area, front desk, and now has several offices. The two large buildings on the property have built in mezzanines that a local farmer has been employed to remove. “There is enough wood in those mezzanines to build a house, but we can’t use it, so this farmer volunteered to take it out.” Fraser said.

The store mainly supplies municipalities and contractors but welcomes the local homeowner to stop by if they are looking for a hard to find part. “We don’t really deal in anything under 5/8 inch plumbing. We leave that to the local supply companies, but if you break the lid to your water meter you can get those from us and anything for larger plumbing jobs,” Fraser explained.

Ed Nugent, owner, stated he looked forward to bringing his business down to the area and serving Huntingburg and Southwest Indiana.

When they open hours will be Monday through Friday 8 to 5 pm and after hours by calling the main office number; 317-783-4196 orĀ  toll free: 800-662-0829.
