Motorist strikes pedestrian at a construction site in Jasper
A construction worker directing traffic on U.S. 231 was struck by a car turning from an intersecting street Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, Holly M. Lange, 25, of Ferdinand, was eastbound on First Avenue in Jasper in a 2012 Buick Verano when she stopped at the U.S. 231 intersection. Donna J. Knight, 60, of Eckerty, was directing traffic in the intersection due to construction there.
Lange told police she didn’t see Knight when she pulled into the intersection to go south on U.S. 231 and struck her.
According to police, Knight complained of pain to her right leg and shoulder and was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital.

Thumbs-up to Chris Arvin. To Kem Burress, it’s not all the fault of drivers – there are also (too) many civilians employed by state and local agencies, contractors, etc, who either don’t know how and/or are not trained properly on how to direct traffic. It’s not easy and proper placement of where to stand changes and is key. I went through these intersections many times this week and was appalled at the lack of active, safe and proper traffic direction by those assigned to this task.
