Most of Dubois County out of fire ban
Update: According to Ferdinand Town Manager Marc Steczyk, Town Council President Ken Sicard and Fire Chief Dan Lindauer are out of town and can’t convene to lift the fire ban until next week. Once they get back in town they ban should be lifted, but Steczyk is recommending citizens hold off on the fireworks displays until Labor Day weekend.
Since Friday of last week the fire ban has been lifted throughout most of the county. Holland and Ferdinand remain the only incorporated townships with an emergency declaration in effect.
Friday evening at 4 p.m. the Dubois County Emergency Management Office stated they were allowing burning within the confines of the ordinance. Only trees, brush and yard waste can be burned; no trash, plastic, processed lumber or treated lumber.
Monday morning, Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner and Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz announced they had rescinded their Local Emergency Declarations.
Due to the lift the Strassenfest Committee will be moving forward with the Sept. 1 fireworks display that will take place at the Schroeder Soccer Complex.
The mandatory water restictions are still in place in Jasper. Currently residents and businesses can water yards, gardens and wash vehicles on days corresponding with their address number. If it is an odd numbered address those activities can occur on odd numbered days of the month; even addresses can do so on even days of the month. The washing of exterior surfaces (sidewalks, driveways and building surfaces) is still banned at this time. (Story here)
