More Dubois County towns issue mandatory water conservation

The following cities and towns have mandatory water conservation orders in effect: · Jasper · Ireland · Winslow · Dubois · Duff

The mandatory orders in these cities mean that watering of lawns, landscaping and gardens with sprinkler systems of any kind is now prohibited – as is washing of vehicles and washing of outdoor surfaces including sidewalks and driveways.

In Jasper, fines include a warning for first offense, $100.00 for second offense and $200.00 and/or disconnection of water service for the 3rd offense.

Other locations with voluntary water conservation advisories include St. Henry, Rural Holland and Stendal. These towns are asking for voluntary compliance to help reduce water consumption.

Huntingburg Mayor Dennie Spinner has asked residents to curtail their usage and the city departments have stopped watering city properties. Spinner said Patoka Lake Water and Sewage District has asked Huntingburg to cut back on the contracted amount the city purchases from the utility. In response Huntingburg has been operating the city water plant on Huntingburg Lake continuously to replace the lost water.
