Moderna/J&J boosters not approved yet

While the FDA advisory panel unanimously endorsed boosters for those individuals that have received the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine, the boosters have not been officially authorized yet.

According to Dubois County Health Department Administrative Director Shawn Werner the process for approval still has steps to go through before it will be made available to the public.

On October 20 or 21, when the CDC ACIP meets, they will likely issue recommendations for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson booster doses. Then, if approved, the Dubois County Health Department has to wait until it receives directions from the Indiana Department of Health for administering the boosters.

Once these steps are complete, the health department will announce the availability of the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson booster doses.

Werner explained that he was compelled to issue this statement based on the high volume of calls the health department has received regarding the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson boosters.
