Mildred A. Fischer, 86, St. Anthony, passed away at 8:25 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Brookside Village in Jasper.

Mildred was born in St. Anthony Indiana on November 4, 1929 to Paul and Anna (Vonderheide) Ehrman. She married William Fischer Sr. on June 10, 1950, in St. Anthony Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on November 10, 1983.

She was a homemaker and rural mail carrier for many years. She and her husband were also part owners of Hasenour Motor Company.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish – St. Anthony Catholic Church, and their Christian Mother’s Sodality. She was active with the bereavement committee. She was a member of the cemetery board, served as a Eucharistic Minister and visited the sick. She was recipient of the Brute Award in 1999.

She was a member of the St. Anthony American Legion Auxiliary where she held several officer positions, the St. Anthony Community Center, the St. Anthony Senior Citizens, and the German Club.

She enjoyed quilting, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Becky Rasche and husband Bill of Huntingburg and Mary “Mert” Wahl and husband Ken of Newburgh; one son, William “Woody” Fischer Jr. and wife Marilyn of Jasper; eight grandchildren,
Jayme Rasche, Jodi Rivers, Kara Payne, Kasey Wahl, Kendall Wahl, Carla Overton, Autumn Lucas, and Brady Fischer; two step-grandchildren, Eric Guth and Brandi Schmitt; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dottie Mathies of Jasper and Bonnie Hoffman and husband Ray of St. Anthony.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were two sisters; Rose Steltenpohl and Irene Carter, and three great-grandchildren; Ben and Hope Fischer and Annie Rivers.

Funeral services for Mildred Fischer will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Divine Mercy Parish – St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until the 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9:00 a.m until the 10:00 a.m. service time at church on Wednesday. The Divine Mercy Christian Mothers Sodality will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
