Mike and his brother, Steve, continue their work with the family business. Today, Uebehlor Oil has grown to Uebelhor Developments, which has expanded to offer property leasing and ownership of Huntingburg QuickLube, Jasper Mystic Lube and Huntingburg Subway.
Mr. Uebelhor married Ann Schrecker in 1971. Together they had four children: Kyle, Josh, Ashley and Shea. Mary Ann passed away in 2000. He married Mary Mundy in 2003 and had one child: Mick.
After his daughter, Ashley, was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1982, Mike and his late wife, Mary Ann, worked to begin the Dubois County Leukemia Association as an outreach and support group for families with leukemia patients across the county. The group has assisted nearly 400 local children and adults since its inception.
With that same strong commitment to community and family values, Mike is heavily involved in many civic groups. He continues to serve the Huntingburg Foundation, Inc. as an Emeritus Board Member, where he was instrumental in the fund drive to construct and complete the $3.8 million Huntingburg Event & Community Center.
Along with his brother, Steve, he was instrumental in the formation of the local Dubois County Right to Life in 1978, along with Matrix Lifeline in the early 80s to extend direct assistance to women and children in need during stress pregnancies. To continue the trend, he joined his daughter in an effort to spearhead the introduction of Teens For Life in the mid 90s.
Since 1974 he has served as a religious education teacher at St. Mary’s Church, Huntingburg. He currently serves the Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and Dubois County Area Economic Development Commission. He is a past board member for Huntingburg Chamber of Commerce, Southwest Dubois County School, and Brescia University Board of Trustees. He is a supporter and host family for the Dubois County Bombers since 2006, and enjoyed his years of coaching youth league baseball and softball.
Mike’s involvement has earned him the Huntingburg Chamber of Commerce’s 2004 Golden Leaf Award, presented to a local business person who has given of their time and talents to allow for the growth of the entire community.
All the while, his focus is squarely on his faith, family, and community.
The Banquet will be held on October 6 at the Huntingburg Events Center. Reception begins at 6PM and the dinner will be at 7PM Eastern Time. Guest speaker will be Most Reverend Charles C. Thompson Bishop of the Diocese of Evansville.
