Meta I. Neukam, 96, Jasper

Meta I. Neukam, 96, of Jasper, passed away at 9:27 p.m. on August 12, 2017, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

 

Meta was born in Haysville on October 8, 1920, to Walter and Anna (Wening) Buchta. She married Harry J. Neukam on October 17, 1939, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on February 6, 2000.

 

Meta worked and retired from the  Kimball Corporation where she had been employed for many years. After retirement, she worked at Wal-Mart in Jasper. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at the Crossroads in Dubois.

 

She enjoyed quilting.

 

She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Sullivan of Jasper; three sons, Richard W. Neukam of Jasper, Russell E. Neukam Sr. of Celestine and John A. Neukam of Loogootee; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Annetta Nigg of Jasper.

 

Preceding her in death are one son, Gary Lee Neukam; one granddaughter, Denise Hancock; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Neukam; and four brothers, Herbert, Arthur, Edwin and Linus Buchta.

 

Funeral services for Meta I. Neukam will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church at the Crossroads in Dubois, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Rev. Mary Poston will officiate.

 

Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, and one hour before services at the church on Thursday.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church at the Crossroads or to a favorite charity.
