Messmer set to represent GOP in 8th District
State Sen. Mark Messmer overcame seven other hopefuls in the 8th Congressional District to nab the GOP nomination for the general election this November.
Messmer took 38.5 percent of the vote, defeating John Hostettler (19.6 percent), who previously represented the district from 1995 until 2007. Dr. Richard Moss was next in line with 14 percent of the votes.
Messmer will face Democrat Erik Hurt, who defeated three other hopefuls with about 45 percent of the vote in his race.
