Mercy Urgent Care set to open Thursday, June 13

Jasper’s newest medical center specializes in quick, convenient, and kind care designed to accommodate those unexpected illnesses and injuries that pop up at various times in life.

Mercy Urgent Care will open its new location in the same complex as Jimmy Johns and Harvest Health in Jasper next Thursday, June 13, 2024. Its convenient daily hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (except Sundays, when everyone needs a day off, according to John McNulty, the company’s CEO and Managing Partner).

Along with providing care for minor emergencies like sprains, fractures, and illnesses, the new location will also provide sports physicals, Department of Transportation Physicals and pre-employment physicals. “We are 100 percent walk-in; we don’t do appointments,” McNulty said, adding they pride themselves on having industry-leading low wait times for patients to be seen.

He understands that busy parents and families treasure their time. Since opening the first urgent care location about 13 years ago, McNulty has used his 22 years of experience in the industry to chip away at inefficiencies in providing that care in a timely manner.

It was a business decision designed to help them grow.

“If a mom comes in and she feels like she made the right decision and gets great medical care and she can get in and out quickly with her 2.3 kids, then we’re going to get her husband and six or seven of her friends,” he explained. “To do that, you have to create an experience that is comfortable.”

So, they ensure each location is comfortable, clean, well decorated and staffed by friendly healthcare workers who have passed the company’s arduous hiring process.

“We use a strong platform to determine and map out the traits of the type of people that work well in this business,” McNulty said. “And once we find individuals with those traits, we go after them.”

Those employees are the backbone of the company’s approach to providing healthcare and creating long-term relationships.

“When someone comes in here, they’re looking for someone to help them with a problem. That is the number one thing,” McNulty explained. “If we help them with that problem and we treat them with kindness and get them in and out, they’re going to want to come back.”

That approach is apparent according to the company’s patient satisfaction and loyalty scores, determined by an independent source. These scores are based on patient reports collected in a survey administered by Bain & Company.

“Above 50 is excellent. Above 80 is world-class,” McNulty said. “We average across all of our clients and all of our providers, 93.”

McNulty explained that he and his partner, Phil Roberts, have had their sights set on a Jasper location for several years due to market research they conducted in planning future expansions. They toured it several times and always noticed the care taken by property owners in maintaining and upkeep of their homes and businesses, as well as the friendliness of the residents.

They knew it was a great place for a Mercy Urgent Care and about two years ago, they nearly purchased a building on Jasper’s northside for that new location. Unfortunately, it was bought before they could make an offer.

Then, last year, a friend contacted them about the former On-the-Go Video /Blockbuster Rental location. It was a great spot for the company’s model, and they jumped at the opportunity.

With the extensive remodeling and renovation now complete and the office staffed with two nurse practitioners, medical assistants and front desk personnel, doors will open next Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 7 a.m. The address is 607 W. Sixth Street, Suite B, Jasper.

They take all forms of insurance including Medicaid and Medicare. “The simple answer to that (insurance acceptance) is even if you are from the moon, we will probably take your insurance,” McNulty joked.

McNulty said they are ready to open and be a great community partner.
