Memorial Hospital Foundation makes $950,000 investment in patient care

The Memorial Hospital Foundation announced a $950,000 transformative investment in patient care and caregiver support for Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. The investment has been made possible by a generous gift from an anonymous donor.

This restricted donation, designated specifically for hospital improvements, has funded the purchase of 46 new Stryker ProCuity beds and advanced Hercules mattresses for the hospital’s Critical Care, Medical, and Post-Surgical Units, and six Hillrom Affinity Birthing Beds with Morel Dream Gel Sleep Surfaces for Labor and Delivery.

“This incredible gift has allowed us to take the next step in elevating how we care for our patients,” said Deidra Church, Director of Memorial Hospital Foundation. “We are so grateful to the anonymous donor for helping us stay on the cutting edge of technology and clinical excellence.”

The addition of these state-of-the-art beds and mattresses represents a significant upgrade to hospital infrastructure, directly benefiting patients, nurses, and hospital operations. Stryker’s ProCuity beds offer advanced features such as Adaptive Bed Alarms that adjust based on patient weight and position, improving fall prevention and safety. Additionally, smart touchscreen displays provide real-time prompts and alerts, helping nurses maintain ideal configurations while saving time and effort.

The accompanying Hercules mattresses are specifically designed to reduce nurse fatigue and patient discomfort. These mattresses improve nursing retention, enhance caregiver safety, reduce infection exposure, and ultimately deliver a better patient experience—all while saving valuable nursing time. Hercules mattresses help reduce manual lifting and repositioning, a common source of fatigue and injury, while improving clinical outcomes and preserving patient dignity. At the same time, Stryker’s innovative bed technology enhances workflow efficiency and supports Memorial’s commitment to quality care.

The Hillrom Affinity Birthing Beds are designed to help deliver a safe and comfortable maternal environment, keeping mom comfortable throughout the birthing experience. The Morel Hercules Dream Gel Mattress is a high-spec sleep surface designed for pressure relief and comfort, particularly for patients at risk of pressure injuries. It utilizes open-cell foam technology and a gel-infused visco-elastic top layer to redistribute pressure, regulate temperature, and provide enhanced envelopment. The mattress also features increased airflow for moisture management and a sloped foot section for accessibility

Frontline caregivers have already shared excitement about the difference this equipment is making. “The response from our nurses has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Lori Persohn, Indiana Region Chief Nursing Officer. “These new beds and mattresses reduce the physical strain on our staff, improve patient safety, and enhance overall comfort. It’s a game changer for both our patients and our team.”

This donation marks a milestone in the Foundation’s ongoing mission to support the health and well-being of our community through targeted, high-impact investments in hospital care.
