Memorial Hospital Foundation announces scholarship recipients

Memorial Hospital Foundation recently announced the recipients of their 2025 scholarships:

  • The Tonya Heim Nursing Scholarship awards $1,500 to a current Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center (MHHCC) employee seeking to advance his/her nursing education. The recipient of the Tonya Heim Scholarship was awarded to Abigail Ruxer.  Abigail has been employed at MHHCC since 2021 and currently works in the critical care unit.  She plans to seek her Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of Southern Indiana. 
  • The Lou Jerger Memorial Healthcare Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to Reece Tretter, daughter of Brian Tretter and Jill Tretter.  Reece is currently a student at Vincennes University Jasper Campus and will graduate in May with an Associates of Science in Nursing and plans to obtain her BSN at Western Governors University.
  • The first of two recipients of the Kathleen M. Tempel Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 was awarded to Jillian Troutman, daughter of Abby Troutman and the late Bill Troutman.  Jillian is a senior at Jasper High School and plans to major in Nursing at the University of Southern Indiana.
  • The second recipient of the Kathleen M. Tempel Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 was awarded to Lesley Echeverria, daughter of Idalia Argueta. Lesley is a senior at Southridge High School and plans to majoring in Nursing at Vincennes University Jasper Campus.
  • The Bethany Volz Medical Staff Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 was awarded to Kenley Shaw, daughter of Benjamin and Kellie Shaw.  Kenley is a senior at Shoals Jr-Sr High School and plans to major in Radiologic and Imaging Sciences at the University of Southern Indiana.

The Memorial Hospital Medical Staff Scholarships award $1,000 to a current high school senior and dependent of a current MHHCC caregiver, pursuing secondary education in any area of study.

  • The first of two recipients of the Memorial Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Whitney Recker, daughter of Jason and Abby Recker. Whitney is a senior at Jasper High School and plans to major in Pharmacy at Purdue University.
  • The second recipient of the Memorial Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Eli Martin, son of Jason and Susan Martin.  Eli is a senior at Forest Park Jr-Sr High School and plans to majoring in Biology (Pre-Med) at the University of Southern Indiana.

The Memorial Hospital Foundation Nursing Scholarship awards $5,000 to a current nursing student entering their fourth year of college. The recipient agrees to work at MHHCC for at least two years following graduation as a condition of receiving this scholarship.

  • The recipient of this scholarship was Emma Hall, daughter of Daniel and Karen Hall.  Emma is a student at the University of Evansville and currently works as a CNA in the medical unit at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. 

Memorial Hospital Foundation also awarded eight scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to students from counties in the Memorial Hospital service areas:

  • The Memorial Hospital Foundation Daviess County Scholarship was awarded to Taylor Ferguson, daughter of Kelly and Kristin Ferguson.  Taylor is a senior at North Daviess Jr-Sr High School and plans to major in Applied Medicine and Occupational Therapy at Indiana State University.
  • The Memorial Hospital Foundation Dubois County Scholarship was awarded to Allison Wahl, daughter of Elizabeth Corley and the late Terry Wahl.  Allison is currently a student at Western Kentucky University and is majoring in Biochemistry (Pre-Med). 
  • The Memorial Hospital Foundation Martin County Scholarship was awarded to Cora Ausbrooks, daughter of Josh and Kristi Ausbrooks. Cora is a senior at Loogootee High School and plans to major in Psychology at Ball State University.
  • The Memorial Hospital Foundation Orange County Scholarship was awarded to Clara Henderson, daughter of Matt and Catherine Henderson. Clara was a 2023 graduate of Paoli Jr-Sr High School and is currently majoring in Nursing at Indiana University Southeast.
  • The Memorial Hospital Foundation Pike County Scholarship was awarded to Xavery Weisman, daughter of Brad and Danette Weisman.  Xavery is a senior at Pike Central High School and plans to major in Physical Therapy at Indiana University Indianapolis.
  • The Memorial Hospital Foundation Perry County Scholarship was awarded to Elijah Pund, son of David and Michelle Pund.  Elijah is a senior at Perry Central Jr-Sr High School and plans to major in Biology (Pre-Med) at Indiana University.
  • The Memorial Hospital Foundation Spencer County Scholarship was awarded to Alaina Rust, daughter of Clint and Jennifer Rust. Alaina is a senior at Heritage Hills High School and plans to major in Nursing at Indiana University. 
  •  The Memorial Hospital Foundation Crawford County Scholarship was awarded to Jadyn Schwartz, daughter of Joel and Amy Schwartz.  Jadyn is a senior at Perry Central Jr-Sr High School and plans to major in Radiation Therapy at Ivy Tech Community College.  

Memorial Hospital Foundation awarded a $1,000 scholarship for participation in the HOSA program.

  • The Memorial Hospital Foundation HOSA Scholarship was awarded to Aoibhinn (Evie) Rasche, daughter of Martin Rasche and the late Martina Rasche.  Evie is a senior at Northeast Dubois High School and plans to major in Radiologic and Imaging Sciences at the University of Southern Indiana.

The Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center Auxiliary awards a $1,000 scholarship to current MHHCC volunteer for their hours.

  • The recipient of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Magy Clark Volunteer Scholarship was Isabelle Gaug, daughter of Mathew and Charleigh Gaug. Isabelle is a senior at Jasper High School and plans to major in Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences at Cedarville University.

The following scholarships were presented in partnership with the Dubois County Community Foundation:

  • The Doris A. Ackerman and Family Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $1,200 was awarded to Jade Maki, daughter of Todd Maki and Ronica Maki.  Jade graduated from Jasper High School in 2024 and is currently a student at University of Southern Indiana and is majoring in Nursing.
  • The first Mabel L. Kuebler Nursing Endowment Scholarship in the amount of $2,200 was awarded to Caitlyn Frick, daughter of Jacob and Angie Frick.  Caitlyn graduated from Southridge High School in 2023 and is currently majoring in Nursing at the University of Evansville.
  • The second Mabel L. Kuebler Nursing Endowment Scholarship in the amount of $2,200 was awarded to Roselyn Bounds, daughter of James and Andrea Bounds.  Roselyn is currently a senior at Southridge High School and plans to major in Radiologic and Imaging Sciences or Nursing at the University of Southern Indiana.
  • The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Clair Leathers, daughter of Scott and Shelly Leathers.  Clair graduated from Southridge High School in 2024 and is currently majoring in Nursing at the University of Southern Indiana.
  • The Mildred E. Schwinghammer Nursing Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 was awarded to Victoria Fetter, daughter of Ron and Tina Fetter.  Victoria graduated from Forest Park High School in 2021 and is majoring in Nursing at Vincennes University Jasper Campus.
  • The Sue Strange and Amy Todd Healthcare Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 for four years was awarded to Adelyn Sergent, the daughter of Richard and Stacy Sergent. Adelyn is a senior at Loogootee High School and plans to major in nursing at Vincennes University Jasper. This is the first year of a four-year scholarship.
  • The Tom and Sue Strange & Amy and Patrick Todd Family Healthcare Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 for up to four years/graduation was awarded to Adleen Nolley, daughter of Gina and Dennis Nolley. Adleen was a 2021 graduate of Loogootee High School and is currently majoring in Nursing at Wabash Valley College. This is the third year Adleen has received this annual scholarship.
