Melvin “Mel” K. Bolling, 82, of Huntingburg, formerly of Holland, passed away at 8:35 a.m., on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born May 6, 1932 in Holland, Indiana, to Karl and Dora (Hemmer) Bolling. He married Carol A. Bauernfiend on September 22, 1956 at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg.

Mel was employed in the advertising department of Holland Dairy, as a sales representative for WTVW Channel 7, and as a self-employed sales and advertising representative. He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Holland where he served on the church council and sang in the choir; and a past member of the Holland Kiwanis Club He was a 60-year member of the Holland American Legion Post #343 and former Honor Guardsman on the Legion’s Memorial Detail. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

He was an avid sports fan and participant, sharing his enthusiasm and love of sports in his published book, “Winning is Forever”, a history of Holland High School basketball.

He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Bolling of Huntingburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Brad (Kimberly) Bolling of Huntingburg; two daughters and two son-in-laws, Jan (Mark) Block of Jasper and Stacie (Cory) Dearing of Huntingburg; two sisters and two brother-in-laws, Shirley (Eugene “Jeep”) Kahle of Holland and Norma Jean (Allan) Wibbeler of Huntingburg; nine grandchildren, Derek Bolling, Tyler Bolling, Bryson Bolling, Abby Fleischman, Allison Block, Aubree Block, Kendyl Dearing, Kadie Dearing and Drew Dearing; five great-grandchildren, Grayson Bolling, Graham Bolling, Avery Fleischman, Alivia Fleischman and Aleyse Fleischman.

Funeral services for Melvin “Mel” Bolling will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015, at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland with burial to follow at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery.

The Holland American Legion Post #343 Memorial Detail will conduct military graveside rites.  Pastor David Darling will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday; and also at St. James Lutheran Church from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Friday, prior to the funeral. Memorial donations can be made to St. James Lutheran Church.
