Melvin Douglas Walton, 76, Dale
Melvin Douglas Walton, 76, of Dale, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015, at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born November 7, 1939 in Haywood County, Tenn., to Henry R. and Jennie R. Walton. He married Judith Ann McCauley on August 23, 1980, in Dresden, Tennessee.
Mr. Walton served twenty years in the United States Marine Corps, was a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired as a gunnery sergeant. Following his military career, Doug worked as a farmer and truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Judith Ann “Judy” Walton, who died May 16, 2012.
He is survived by one son, William Henry Walton of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; four stepchildren, Susan K. Andrews of Union City, Tenn., Daniel W. Hammersley of Union City, Tenn., Sandra J. Murray of Adrian, Mich., and Jonathan A. Hammersley of Huntingburg; two siblings, Wayne Walton of Tenn. and Janice Joyner of Tenn.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Doug Walton will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at the Dale Cemetery in Dale, Indiana. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday the day of the funeral.
