Melba L. Hartke, 81

Melba L. Hartke, age 81, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 6:35 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center in Huntingburg.

She was born February 24, 1932 in Huntingburg, Indiana to Leo and Alvina (Hachmeister) Miller. She was united in marriage to Loma Wm. Hartke in September of 1951 at the Methodist Church in Huntingburg.

Melba worked as treasurer of the Huntingburg School District for 7 ½ years followed by 19 years as fiscal officer for Tri-Cap. After her retirement, she served 7 years on the Tri-Cap board of directors. Melba was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg. She was preceded in death by: two brothers, Russell Hesson and Ray “Junior” Hesson; and two sisters, Leona Weaver and Norena Werremeyer.

She is survived by her husband, Loma Wm. Hartke of Huntingburg; two sons and two daughter-in-laws, David (Brenda) Hartke of Huntingburg and Jeff (Vicki) Hartke of Huntingburg; one brother, Bob Miller of Huntingburg; one sister, Doris Reutepohler of Huntingburg; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Melba Hartke will be held at 12:00 noon, E.S.T., on next Saturday, December 28th, 2013 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, on Saturday, December 28th, the day of the funeral.
