Melba L. Gerlach, 86

Melba L. Gerlach, 86, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 9:25 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015 at CORE Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Dale.
She was born January 8, 1929 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Homer J. and Mable M. (Cato) Stillwell. She married Marvin Gerlach on June 28, 1958 in Dale, Indiana; he preceded her in death on December 28, 2014.
Melba retired from General Electric after more than 20 years with the company. After her retirement, she went to work at the Huntingburg Dairy Queen. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting and growing flowers. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. She graduated from the Huntingburg High School Class of 1947. Melba was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; the V.F.W. Post #2366 Auxiliary; and a supporter of the Humane Society.
She is survived by her four sister-in-laws, Joan Oxley of Jasper, Pat Hedinger of Jasper, Marilyn Mayo of St. Louis, and Bernice Gerlach of Huntingburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Reverend Fr. Ryan Hilderbrand will officiate at the Funeral Mass.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 9:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, the day of the funeral. Memorial donations can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
