Mayor’s Foundation of Jasper Award presented by Mayor Schmitt

Mayor Schmitt bestowed his Mayor’s Foundation Of Jasper Award on Ken Sendelweck this past Friday December 16, 2011.

The Mayor’s Foundation of Jasper Award was created to honor someone who has improved the quality of life for the citizens of the City of Jasper. The accomplishments of the recipient help to build and strengthen a permanent foundation for Jasper.  These cornerstones will help to secure Jasper as one of the best small cities in America.

The creation of the name of this award was formulated from the original naming of the City of Jasper which has been told as follows:

The original town of Jasper was situated on land acquired by the Enlows and contained 120 acres. The commissioners were going to call the town “Eleanor” in honor of Mrs. Enlow, wife of Joseph Enlow, when the good lady said, “No, wait, let me select a name”.

Referring to her Bible she suggested the word “Jasper” and thus the town was named. Mrs. Enlow had read from the book of Revelation, Chapter 21, Verse 19. “And the founders of the wall of the city were adorned with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was Jasper”.

The Mayor’s Foundation of Jasper Award is the highest honor that the Mayor of Jasper can bestow on an individual. It is a personal tribute to someone who has rendered a distinguished service to the community and shall be held in the highest regard.

Ken is a President of Private Banking & Wealth Management and Secretary of German American Bancorp. He is a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana and is a CPA and CTP with over 28 years of financial management experience.

This is only the 4th award Mayor Schmitt has given out during his 20 years.
