Maurice E. “Pete” Werremeyer, 90, Huntingburg

Maurice E. “Pete” Werremeyer, 90, of Huntingburg, passed away at 11:20 p.m., on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at his home.
He was born February 17, 1927, in Pike County to Oliver and Alvina (Kemper) Werremeyer. He married Melba M. Roesner on August 20, 1950, at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland.
He served in the United States Navy as a Gunner’s Mate Third Class during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. Pete worked as an independent bulk milk hauler. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, the Holland American Legion and V.F.W. Post #2366. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and fishing. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and I.U. Basketball fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Everett “Jim” Werremeyer; and one sister, Katherine M. Werremeyer.
Pete is survived by his wife, Melba M. Werremeyer, of Huntingburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack R. (Barbara) Werremeyer of Dale; one daughter and son-in-law, Joni M. (Jay) Zarnoth of Dale; by six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Maurice “Pete” Werremeyer will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2017, at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland with burial to follow at St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Holland. The Reverend David Darling and Reverend Ed Wicks will officiate at the service. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Holland American Legion Memorial Detail assisted by members of the V.F.W. Post #2366.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16th. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Lutheran Cemetery Endowment Fund or Honor Flight of Southern Indiana.
