Mary M. DeKemper, 87, Ireland

Mary M. DeKemper, 87, Ireland, passed away at 2:35 a.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Brookside Village in Jasper.

Mary was born in Dubois on August 28, 1929 to John R. and Caroline (Schmitt) Mehringer. She married Herman “Buck” DeKemper on June 18, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2003.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and their St. Anne’s Society and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed quilting, antiquing, and spending time with the grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Leinenbach of Jasper, Carol Stetter and husband Larry of Ireland and Phyllis Krodel and husband Tom of Jasper; one daughter-in-law, Beverly DeKemper of Jasper; one son, Michael DeKemper of Ireland; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Florence Sweeney of Middletown, Ohio.

Preceding her in death besides her husband was one son, John DeKemper, one grandson Christopher Krodel, one son-in-law, Greg Leinenbach, three sisters, Leona Schwartz, Marcella Fleck, Catherine Dotterweich, six brothers, Silas, Lucas, Emil, Victor, Leo, and Claude Mehringer.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary DeKemper will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel. The St. Mary’s St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 3:45 p.m.
