Mary Ellen (Small) Jones, 75, Puryear, Tenn.

Mary Ellen (Small) Jones, 75, of Puryear, Tenn., died peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2024.

She fought an exhausting, brave and courageous battle against illness.

She was born in Washington, Ind., on July 11, 1949, to the late John Wesley and Hilda Laura (Himsel) Small who farmed in Ireland, Ind., during her young life.

Her family later moved to Huntingburg, IN.

Known as “Mag” to family and friends, she graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1967. She attended the University of Evansville after graduating high school.

Married to her high school sweetheart, Wayne Jones of Huntingburg. The young couple moved to Murray, Kentucky, where Wayne was enrolled in Murray State University. The couple would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on December 28.

They lived in the Murray area for their married life, primarily on Peach Orchard Road, where they farmed and owned a veal calf operation. Mag also worked outside the home at South Central Bell Telephone, PTL and the Calloway County School system.

Mary Ellen Jones is predeceased by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Wayne Jones; her sons, Beau Matthew (Melissa) of Rutherfordton, N.C. and Brock Wesley (Lauren) of Puryear, Tenn.; she is also survived by her only sibling, Samuel Wesley Small (Karen) of Cave City, Ky. She leaves behind the grandchildren she so loved, Molly, Brody, and Braden. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Sandra Nicholson (Michael) of Woodlands, Texas and Sharon Feeney (Kevin) of Peachtree Corners, Ga., along with six nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Entombment will follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens.
