Mary Elizabeth Wirthwein, 90

Mary Elizabeth Wirthwein, 90, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 6:40 a.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Huntingburg.
She was born August 19, 1924 in Troy, Indiana, to Frank and Theresa (Linne) Gramelspacher.
She was united in marriage to Alois Roy Wirthwein on October 11, 1946.
Mary was employed for many years at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Huntingburg and before that, she worked in the coffee shop at the former Stork Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg; St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality; and the Huntingburg, Ferdinand and Jasper Senior Citizens Community Centers.
Mary was an avid card payer who also enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alois Wirthwein, who died October 24, 2003; one brother, Francis Gramelspacher of Tell City; and three sisters, Sr. Mary Anna Gramelspacher, O.S.B. of Ferdinand, Bernadine Mullis of Tell City and Helen Weddle of Terre Haute.
She is survived by one daughter, Connie (husband: Marv) Knies of Huntingburg; three sons, Joe (wife: Lu) Wirthwein of Celestine, Mike (friend: Kim Gieselman) Wirthwein of Winslow, and Bernie (wife: Brenda) Wirthwein of Huntingburg; one brother, James (wife: Mick) Gramelspacher of Jasper; one brother-in-law, John Wirthwein of Huntingburg; by seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mary E. Wirthwein will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.S.T., on Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Huntingburg.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 9:00-9:45 a.m., Friday morning, the day of the service.
