Mary Broeker, 95, Huntingburg

Mary Broeker, 95, Huntingburg, passed away at 8:40 p.m., on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

She was born May 7, 1921, in Jasper, Indiana to Herman and Clara (Hopf) Kluemper. She married Ralph W. Broeker on April 24, 1941, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

Mrs. Broeker retired as a school cook, having worked at St. Mary’s and Crestview Schools. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality, and the V.F.W. Post #2366 Auxiliary.  Mary enjoyed quilting, reading, completing puzzles of all kinds, and was an avid Cubs fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph “Buzz” Broeker, who died November 19, 2003; one son, David Broeker; three brothers, Edwin, Andy and Robert Kluemper; and one sister, Margaret Burger.

She is survived by two daughters, Dianne (Gene) Mehringer of Ireland and Annette (Mike) Kugler of Huntingburg; four sons, Don (Pat) Broeker of Huntingburg, John (Peg) Broeker of Huntingburg, Bill (Shirley) Broeker of Oakland City and Rich (Joan) Broeker of Rockport; by 16 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mary Broeker will be held at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00 8:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday. A parish rosary prayer vigil will be held at 3:00 p.m. and a V.F.W. Post #2366 Auxiliary vigil will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
