Mary Ann Sander, 76, Celestine

Mary Ann Sander, 76, of Celestine, passed away surrounded by family at 3:48 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at home.

Mary Ann was born in Celestine, Ind., on December 9, 1949, to Victor and Loretta (Klem) Humbert. 

She married Ronald Sander on May 23, 1970, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, Indiana.

She graduated from Jasper High School. She was employed at Northeast Dubois Elementary School for over 40 years.

She was a devoted wife for 56 years and dedicated her life to raising her children. She was a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Catholic Church. She was part of St. Ann’s Society and was a member of the Celestine Community Club. She served as president of the Celestine Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Mary Ann enjoyed her family and loved when her grandchildren came to visit. She loved helping at the Celestine Community Club, playing cards with her family, and mowing her yard.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Sander of Celestine; one son, Jeff (Karen) Sander of Celestine; two daughters, Nanette (Pat) Brames of Verona, Ky. and Janel (Kris) Buechler of Celestine; seven grandchildren, Jazlyn, Madison, Shayla, Kole, Trace, Paige, and Kelby; and one brother, Mike (Donna) Humbert of Jasper.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Theresa Humbert and her parents, Victor and Loretta Humbert.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ann Sander will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at St. Celestine Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Mass time at the church on Tuesday.
