Mary Ann Alles, 96

Mary Ann Alles, 96, of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2014, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.

Mary Ann was born on May 9, 1918 to Florian and Caroline (Giesler) Schuetter.  She married James Alles on January 29, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.  He preceded her in death on February 5, 1960.

Mary Ann was a cook for the priests at St. Joseph’s parish, as well as a waitress in many establishments, alongside of raising her family of four. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, the American Legion Auxiliary, the St. Ann’s Society, and the Daughters of Isabella. Mary Ann loved gardening, and her “rock garden” was enjoyed by many passersby at 9th and Bartley Streets.

She is survived bythree daughters,Deborah Dunstone, and her husband David, of Kalamazoo, Mich., Barbara Alles of Indianapolis, and Martha “Mert” Bayer, and her husband, Tom, of Green Bay, Wis.; one son, John Alles, and his wife Suzan, of Huntingburg; six grandchildren;four great-grandchildren; one sister,Ruth Heldman of Clarksville, Ind.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are one daughter, Caroline Alles, who died in infancy,  four sisters, Jenny Bell, Lorena Graehler, Millie Elmore Richards, and Rita Ingram, and six brothers, Arnold, Alphonse, Eugene, Marcus, Daniel and Robert Schuetter.

Funeral services for Mary Ann Alles will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church.
