Mary Alice Griffin, age 96 of Selvin, Indiana, passed away at 3:45 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale.

She was born November 24, 1914 to Florence (Eddings) DeHaven in Blackford, Kentucky (Editors: father’s name is not listed). She was united in marriage to Ranzy “Dutch” Griffin on June 10, 1935 in Boonville, Indiana. Mary had worked as a cook at the old Selvin School, owned and operated the Selvin General Store, and was a gatekeeper at Yellow Banks Camp Ground. She was a member of the Blackford Baptist Church and was an avid quilter. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ranzy “Dutch” Griffin, who died April 10, 1999; four brothers – Glen, Robert, William, and Major DeHaven; and one sister, Allene Greer.

She is survived by:

  • One son and daughter-in-law, Randy (spouse: Vicki) Griffin – Tennyson, IN,
  • Two daughters and two son-in-laws, Patsy (spouse: James) Marshall – Dale, IN and Sharon (spouse: Larry) Ray – Corydon, IN
  • by (4) grandchildren, (2) step grandchildren, (5) great grandchildren, (7) step great grandchildren, and (2) great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mary Alice Griffin will be held at 11:00 a.m., Eastern Daylight Time, on Wednesday, September 7th at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at the Selvin Cemetery in Selvin. The Rev. Karen Sureck will officiate the services.
