Mary Agnes Gehlhausen, 89, of Jasper, passed away at 4:05 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.

Mary Agnes was born in Cannelton, IN, on September 24, 1927, to William J. and Agnes H. (Snyder) Busam. She married Irvin J. Gehlhausen on May 15, 1946, in St. Michaels Catholic Church in Cannelton. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2003.

She was a homemaker and an artist who specialized in landscape paintings.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and their St. Ann’s Society. She was an oblate of St. Benedict, a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound, and a member of the Legion of Mary. She also volunteered at Memorial Hospital in Jasper and was active in the Dubois County Art Guild.

She enjoyed painting, camping and hiking.

She is survived by three daughters, Julia Thomas of Evansville, Karen Summers of Woodland Park, Colo. and Kathy Barth (Jeff) of St. Anthony, one son, Mark Gehlhausen (Theresa) of Jasper; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death beside her husband was one son, Joseph Gehlhausen, a daughter Mary Therese Gehlhausen who died in infancy, and a brother William J. Busam, who died in childbirth.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Agnes Gehlhausen will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Joseph St. Ann’s Society will lead a rosary at 1:45 p.m.
