Marvin Gerlach, 85

Marvin Gerlach, 85, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 1:10 p.m., on Sunday, December 28, 2014, at The Timbers of Jasper nursing center in Jasper.
He was born August 17, 1929 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Frank J. and Linda H. (Grundhoefer) Seifert Gerlach. He married Melba L. Stillwell in June of 1958 at Dale, Indiana.
Mr. Gerlach retired from Whirlpool in Evansville and was previously employed at Jasper Engines & Transmissions and Scott Windows. Upon his retirement, he returned to his hobby of making various kinds of furniture and cabinets.
He was an avid gardener and delighted in sharing apples and vegetables with his family and friends. Marvin also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife had fond memories of their many trips touring the USA.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. Marvin graduated from Huntingburg High School and received additional training in Chicago for tool and die making. He was a United States Army veteran who served as a medical corpsman in Guam.
Mr. Gerlach was preceded in death by: his parents; four brothers, Russell, John, Frank and Don Gerlach; and three sisters, Ruth Wendling, Marcella Lindman and Doris Hochgesang.
He is survived by his wife, Melba L. Gerlach of Huntingburg; three sisters, Joan Oxley of Jasper, Pat Hedinger of Jasper, and Marilyn Mayo of St. Louis, Mo.;
Funeral services for Marvin Gerlach will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Huntingburg.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Friday, the day of the service.
