Martin J. “Marty” Steltenpohl, 73, Jasper,

Martin J. “Marty” Steltenpohl, 73, of Jasper, passed away at 7:12 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at home surrounded by family.

Marty was born in Jasper, Indiana, on December 13, 1952, to Bernard and Viola (Sermersheim) Steltenpohl. 

He married Sonya Schroeder on February 17, 1973, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana.

He graduated from Jasper High School in 1970.

He was a truck driver for Breidenbaugh’s Concrete for 30 years. He then retired from the City of Jasper Wastewater Plant, where he had worked for 10 years.

Marty was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland.

He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Sonya Steltenpohl of Jasper; two children, Bart (Tiffany) Steltenpohl of Jasper and Jayme (Eric) Rasche of Jasper; seven grandchildren, Ashton Messier, Sydney Gehlhausen, Olivia Steltenpohl, Isabella Steltenpohl, Brooklyn Rasche, Cali Rasche, and Elijah Steltenpohl; one brother, Kenneth (Sarah) Steltenpohl of Jasper; and one brother-in-law, Mark Merder of Jasper.

Preceding him in death are his parents and two sisters, Janice Merder and Anne Racicot

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Martin J. Steltenpohl will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the church.
