Martin County crash claims teen’s life, injures 3

Alfordsville — Nathaniel Schuetz. 19, of Loogootee was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on Alfordsville Road Saturday evening.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Department, alcohol may have been a factor in the accident that took Schuetz life and injured three other passengers.

The accident occurred at 7:35 p.m. when the 2005 Toyota passenger car Schuetz was driving crashed on Martin County Road 650 South (Alfordsville Road), west of U.S. 231.

After the crash the three passengers, 19-year-old Colten J. Davis, 20-year-old Corbin D. Wildman and 18-year-old Dirk M. Fahey, all of Loogootee, were able to exit the vehicle. Schuetz, however, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by members of the Haysville Volunteer Fire Department.

All three were transported to area hospitals and were in stable condition according to the sheriff’s department.

Police state alcohol may have been a factor in the crash but it is still under investigation.

Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Haysville fire units, Martin County EMS and Dubois County EMS responded to the scene.
