  1. I extend my sympathy to the family and friends of Marlene Huls. She was my third grade teacher at 5th St. School back around 1975. I remember her to be a very kind, caring teacher, yet very fair and firm when she needed to be. After lunch and recess, she would a read aloud a couple of chapters of a book to us every day. My favorite book she read to us was “Charlotte’s Web.” Because of her teaching and belief in practice and repetition, I mastered multiplication facts and other basic math skills. She helped us build a good solid academic foundation. That is a gift beyond measure and I am so grateful and fortunate to have had her as my 3rd grade teacher. I admire her very much for what she did for me, my classmates and all the students she taught over the past 63 years of her career. May she rest in God’s loving arms. Cheryl Lehmkuhler Haas
