Mark E. Schmitt, 62, Huntingburg

Mark E. Schmitt, 62, of Huntingburg, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was born March 31, 1953 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Frank J. and Ruth (Lechner) Schmitt.  Mark was a farmer; a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Duff Water Corporation, and Duff Conservation Club; and loved working on his farm and playing cards.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Schmitt; and one sister, Karen Sue Schmitt.

He is survived by his beloved special friend of 20 years, Doris Harris of Huntingburg; his father, Frank J. Schmitt of Huntingburg; four brothers and three sister-in-laws, Roger Schmitt of Washington, Daniel (Sherry) Schmitt of Velpen, Norbert (Phyllis) Schmitt of Huntingburg and Lee Ray (Susie) Schmitt of Washington; three sisters and two brother-in-laws, Mary Beth (Tom) Vogler of Ireland, Diana (Dennis) Uebelhack of Mount Vernon and Kim Davis of Huntingburg; Doris’ daughter and son, Laura (Tom) Peters of Jasper and Scot (Mandy) Harris of Huntingburg; and by grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mark E. Schmitt will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Huntingburg.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. A parish rosary prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
