Marilyn Sue (Abell) Wollenmann, 86, Shorewood, Ill.

Marilyn Sue (Abell) Wollenmann, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025 in Shorewood, Illinois.

She was born on May 11, 1939, at her family home in Dubois County, Ind., to Colonel Christian Louis and Elma Mae (Chanley) Abell.

Marilyn married the love of her life, Matthew (Matt) Wollenmann, on November 10, 1962.

Their union was built on deep love and devotion, filled with warmth and wonderful memories, until Matt’s passing on April 12, 1999.

Marilyn served as Ferdinand’s town librarian and held various other cherished roles throughout her life, each one touched by her love and kindness. She had a love for reading, putting together puzzles, playing games, cooking, bird watching, flower gardening, and writing. Above all, she adored spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by her siblings, Carol Platthy, Elwood (Elsie) Abell, Pete Abell, and Larry (Joey) Abell; her sisters-in-law, Nona (Dennis) Abell, Vicki (Gene) Abell, Gloria Shreve, and Carolyn (Virg) Tieken. A devoted mother to her cherished daughters, Sabrina (Chris) Fleming and Tiffany (Stephen Musich) Lichlyter; and her cherished grandchildren, Sophie Lichlyter, Gabriel Lichlyter, Chloe Fleming, and Caleb Fleming. She is also remembered affectionately by many nieces and nephews.

There will be a private gathering to celebrate Marilyn’s life, honoring the joy and warmth she brought to all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Marilyn’s memory may consider a small donation to the National Audubon Society.
