Marilyn Rose (Richardt) Evans, 83, Jasper

Marilyn Rose (Richardt) Evans, 83, passed away on January 28, 2025, at Serenity Spring Senior Living at Northwood in Jasper.

She was born in Tell City on November 13, 1941, to John and Wanda (Goodson) Richardt.

Marilyn spent 14 years at the Convent of Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand. Even when she chose to leave, she remained friends with her former classmates; they often joined one another for reunions. She was known as Sr. Mary Stephen.

She tried several vocations including manager of her brother Steve’s pawn shop. Together, they also started a business as chimney sweeps. She also had a part in building a nuclear plant in Oklahoma before it was shut down. Marilyn later was a manager of Churche’s Chicken in Alabama and in Terre Haute, plus managing Wooden Keg Liquors in Jasper and Birdseye.

She really enjoyed being a boss.

Marilyn’s greatest joy over the years were her dogs and an occasional cat. She also made many quilts and did beautiful embroidery pieces. She also had a rather interesting hobby of raising butterflies, and what fun it was to watch her release them. Fishing and gardening were a few of her other great pastimes.

She is survived by her four siblings, Fr. Larry Richardt of Zionsville, Joseph (Bonnie) Richardt of Huntingburg, Stephen (Sharon) Richardt of Claremore, Ok., and Susan (Paul) Lemond of Ireland, Ind.; three nephews; two step-nephews; one step-niece; several great step-nephews and nieces; and one great-great nephew.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, O.D. Evans.

Fr. Larry Richardt will officiate a Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg on Monday February 17, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. EST.

A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held in the St. Mary’s cafeteria from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. EST, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Troy.

Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family or the Dubois County Humane Society.
