Marilyn J. Schmitt, 68, of Jasper, passed away at 10:30 pm. on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville.

Marilyn was born in Jasper, Indiana on November 24, 1946 to Lawrence and Marcella (Marks) Fleck. She married Alan W. Schmitt on June 17, 1967 in St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She was a homemaker and an antique dealer for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. She enjoyed restoring her 1879 historic Eckert home, cooking, gardening, traveling, quilting, sewing, and arts and crafts of all kinds. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Alan W. Schmitt of Jasper; three daughters, Alana Goepfrich and husband Mike of Jasper, Melanie Nichols of Burlington, Ky., and Andrea Martinez and husband José Luis of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren, Adam and Josie Goepfrich, and Caleb, Jacob, and Eli Nichols; one sister, Carolyn “Kitty” Weikert and husband William of Ireland; two brothers, Gene Fleck and wife Laura of Huntington and Dan Fleck and wife Joan of Plainfield, Ind.;

Preceding her in death were three sisters, Irma Schnaus, Margaret Kress and Donna Schmitt; and one brother, Allen Fleck.

Funeral services for Marilyn J. Schmitt will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Lemon Cemetery in Boone Township.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Legion of Mary will pray the rosary at 2:45 p.m.
