Marie L. Gessner, 88, Ferdinand

Marie L. Gessner, 88, of Ferdinand, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

Marie was born November 12, 1929, in St. Henry to Paul and Anna (Moeller) Oeding. She married Oscar Gessner on October 6, 1951, in St. Henry. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1979.

Marie was retired from Best Chairs. She also was a cook at Kordes Hall. Marie enjoyed quilting, cooking and playing cards.

She is survived by four sons, Frank (Marie) Gessner of Ferdinand, Allan (Bonnie) Gessner of Jasper, Mark (Joyce) Gessner of Celestine and Tony (Donna) Gessner of St. Meinrad; five daughters, Carol (Bill) Meyer, Martha (Jerry) Hempfling and Paula (Tom) Vonderheide all of Ferdinand, Marlene (Roch) Gehlhausen of Jasper and Clara (Lee Ray) Tempel of St. Meinrad; one brother, Edgar (Mildred) Oeding of Jasper; 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; six brothers, Gregory, Benard, Ralph, Roman, Linus and Leo Oeding; three sisters, Helen Hopf and Rose and Cecila Kersteins.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Meinrad Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
