Maria Julianna (Krieschneider) Mihajlovits, 90, passed away at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

Maria was born in Eztergom, Hungary on December 8, 1925, to Ferenc Krieschneider and Katalin Kheil.

She and her husband, Alexander, escaped from Hungary during the Communist uprising in Hungary in 1956. They relocated to Syracuse, New York where they resided until they moved to a retirement community in New Port Richey, Florida.

While living in New York, Maria was employed by Schultzle Needle Company for 27 years. After the passing of her husband in 2014, she moved to Huntingburg.

Maria loved being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, cooking, crocheting, knitting, decorating and playing cards.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander L. Mihajlovits, Sr.; by two sisters, Julianna & Erzsebet; and by two brothers, Ferenc & Joszeph in Hungary.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Stephen (Kristine) Mihajlovits of Doswell, Va. and Alexander “Al” (Andrea) Mihajlovits of Huntingburg; three sisters, Katalin, Magdaline & Margit all of Tat, Hungary; five grandchildren, William (Bethany) Mihajlovits of Doswell, Va., Stephanie (Corey) Salomone of Doswell, Va., Matthew Mihajlovits of New Albany, Nicole (Jason) Mihajlovits Stephens of Newburgh and Natalie (Jarrod) Mihajlovits Newell of Carmi, Ill.; four great-granddaughters and five great-grandsons living in Indiana, Illinois, and Virginia; by one sister-in-law and by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews living in Hungary, Germany, Romania, and France.

Maria was a Catholic and requested no visitation or funeral. Her wishes were to be cremated followed by a private service with immediate family attending.

Arrangements have been entrusted with the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Maria to the American Heart Association.
