Maria Elba Ponce, age 74, of Jasper, passed away at 5:05 a.m. on Monday (January 28, 2013) at home.

Maria was born in Sensuntepeque, Cabanas, El Salvador on August 11, 1938 to Barbara Ponce.

Maria was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, IN.

She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving,

Two sons,

  • Salvador Hernandez, and his wife Dianna , and
  • Douglas Hernandez; f

ive grandchildren, Rita, Karen, Brandon, Mateo, and Maya Hernandez; one sister, Teresa Velasco, and her husband Rigoberto; and one brother, Jose Luis Ponce, and his wife Ines.

Preceding Maria in death are three brothers, Jorge, Andalino, and Alfredo Ponce.

Funeral services for Maria Elba Ponce will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday (February 2, 2013) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, with burial to follow at a later date in El Salvador.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday (February 1, 2013) at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
