Margaret M. Schroering, 93, of Jasper, and formerly of Celestine, passed away at 10:08 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

She was born in Celestine, Indiana, on June 29, 1922, to George H. and Caroline (Schnell) Heldman. She married Gilbert H. Schroering on October 6, 1945 at St. Celestine Church. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1977.

Margaret was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine.

She was a member of the St. Ann’s Society of St. Joseph Church in Jasper.

She was a cook for many years at St. Celestine Elementary School and taught religious education classes.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, John Schroering and wife Krista of Dubois; three daughters, Jeanette Jahn and husband Larry of St. Anthony,  Bonnie Uebelhor and husband Steve of Huntingburg and Mona Wagner and husband Dave of Huntingburg; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Leona Kluemper of Jasper, Lucille Blume of Jasper and Delphine Knies and husband Earl of Celestine; one brother, Cletus Heldman and wife Ruth of Aberdeen, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Veronica Heldman of Celestine and Marcella Heldman of Indianapolis; one brother-in-law, Elmer Joe Schroering and wife Linda of Jasper.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were two daughters; Deborah Schoering who died in childhood, and Marlene McCormick, one grandson; Ryan Uebelhor, one sister; Albertha Knies, and four brothers; Barnabas, Joseph, Raymond, and Norman Heldman.

Funeral services for Margaret Schroering will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Joseph’s St. Ann’s Society will pray the rosary at 11:45 a.m.
