Margaret A. Opel

Margaret A. Opel, age 77 of Jasper passed away at her home on Thursday in Jasper.

She was born June 7, 1934 in Jasper, Indiana to John F. Sr. and Otillia (Schnell) Stratman. She married Virgil (Bill) Opel July 17, 1954 and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1980.

Margaret retired from Corbin Drapery Shop in Jasper where she was a seamstress for many years.

She was a graduate of Jasper High School Class of 1952.

She is a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.

Surviving,

One daughter, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Faris, Dana Point ,CA

Four sons,

  • Steve Opel and spouse (Lynne), Pasadena, CA
  • Jeff Opel and spouse (Joan), Huntingburg, IN
  • Joseph Opel and spouse (Jennifer), Salisbury, NC
  • John Opel, Jasper, IN

Seven grandchildren,

One sister, Mildred Linhof, Colorado Springs, CO

One brother, Paul Stratman, Jasper, IN

Preceding her in death besides her husband is one sister Mary Louise “Mecie” Lorton and two brothers John F. Stratman Jr. and Ralph Stratman.

Funeral services for Margaret Opel will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (January 24, 2012) in Precious Blood Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery In Jasper.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday (January 23, 2012) at the Becher – Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dubois County Museum , Precious Blood Catholic Church or a favorite charity.
