Marching bands finish well heading into semi-state

Results from this past weekend’s high school marching bands serve as a gauge to where bands are with their programs, especially compared to other bands, as the ISSMA semi state looms large this coming weekend.

At the Contest of Champions in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jasper finished second — Reserve Grand Champion — among bands from Tennessee and Kentucky. Jasper garnered 86.35 points, while the top band from Tennessee — Dobyns-Bennett of Kingsport, in the northeast corner of the state — collected 90.10 points to take first place.

In the Bands of America competition at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Forest Park came in third in Class A.  Bellbrook of Ohio swept the Class A awards with the top spot and best music, visual and general effect.

Other bands that competed at Indianapolis included Floyd Central, Springs Valley, Paoli, Orleans, Tell City, Crawford County and Perry Central.

All bands are preparing for the ISSMA semi-state competition this weekend.

Jasper will march in Class B at Pike High School in Indianapolis on Saturday at 3:49 p.m.

Forest Park will march in Class D at Franklin Community High School at 5:46 p.m. and Springs Valley at 4:28 p.m.

Southridge will march at Decatur Central High School in Indianapolis at 4:15 p.m. in Class C.

Those bands who finish in the top spots this Saturday will move on to ISSMA state finals at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, November 8th.
