Marching bands continue great performances

Local marching bands had top finishes in several competitions over the weekend.

The Jasper Marching Wildcats finished second behind Northview and Plainfield in Class B at Avon. The band picked up best music and best percussion for their performance.

The finish was a positive showing for the Jasper’s program called “Mid-Autumn Night’s Dream” in face of competition they are likely to see in the state finals on October 29th at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Also at Avon, Springs Valley finished first in Class D, blowing away their competition and picking up best for music, visual, general effect, auxiliary and percussion.

In Clarksville, Tenn., the Forest Park Marching Rangers finished 3rd in Class A preliminaries but did not place in the finals marching their program called “Jewel Tones.” The contest was held at Austin Peay State University and was a Bands of America Regional competition.

The Southridge Marching Raiders competed in two contests in Evansville over the weekend. Lannie Butler’s squad finished second in Class A at the F.J. Reitz “Drill on the Hill.” They also picked up best percussion.

Then, at Evansville North, Southridge finished fourth in Class AA and picked up best for percussion and drum major.

All bands are continuing to shape their programs ahead of ISSMA competition at the Open Class marching band Invitational on Saturday, October 8.
