March 7: Jasper Downtown Revitalization update
A construction meeting regarding the Downtown Revitalization Phase II Project was held on March 5th with representatives of Ragle Construction, REA, VS Engineering, and City of Jasper.
Construction crews are currently focused on pouring curbs, ADA ramps, and sidewalks between 3rd and 4th Streets. The ongoing construction has resulted in road closures between these intersections, which are expected to remain in place until mid-March.
Intermittent lane closures are also occurring on 3rd Avenue due to work at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Main Street. During these closures, the center lane is being utilized for westbound traffic.
The project is set to expand in scope beginning the week of March 17, when contractors will commence Part Two of the revitalization effort. This phase involves improvements to Main Street from 7th to 9th Streets, with final completion anticipated in Spring 2025.
Construction will initially focus on the block between 7th and 8th Streets before moving to the section between 8th and 9th Streets. Both blocks are expected to remain closed for the majority of the construction period.
Project officials note that scheduling remains dependent on weather conditions and material availability, factors that could potentially alter the timeline.
Despite the extensive construction work, accessibility to all building entrances will be maintained for pedestrian traffic throughout the duration of the project, ensuring businesses remain accessible to foot traffic.
Coordination meetings with contractor representatives are being held bi-weekly throughout the construction period. Additional updates regarding the project will be provided on a bi-weekly basis, or as new information becomes available.
