Two men arrested on felony charges after bloody fight at Jasper factory
This story has been corrected. Due to some confusion on our part, we reported the altercation occurred between Barrett and Brown. According to police, these two are accused of battering an unidentified victim.
Two men involved in a serious assault last weekend at Jasper Rubber Products Plant No. 1, 1010 First Avenue, were arrested Thursday on felony warrants.
According to Jasper police, they were called to the plant at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday for the report of an altercation involving three men.
After investigating, police determined an argument between Christopher D. Barrett, 24, of 103 N. Washington Street, Huntingburg and an unidentified victim turned violent when Barrett struck the victim in the back of the head.
According to police, Barrett then pulled a knife and began repeatedly cutting the victim, with most cuts landing on his raised arm.
During the fight, Kelvin M. Brown, 23, of 560 Charlotte Avenue, Jasper, also struck the victim in the back with a pole.
The victim was able to pull out a stun gun and tazed Barrett during the fight allowing him to flee the plant. He was soon located by officers and taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of his numerous injuries. Police reported the victim required stitches for his wounds.
Upon completing the investigation, warrants were issued in Dubois Circuit Court for the arrests of Barrett and Brown.
Barrett is charged with a Level 3 felony count of aggravated battery resulting in serious, permanent disfigurement, Level 5 felony counts of battery resulting in serious bodily injury and battery by means of a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor count of battery resulting in bodily injury.
Brown is charged with a Level 6 felony count of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury.
The two were arrested without incident and booked into the Dubois County Security Center. Barrett is being held on a $7,500 cash bond and Brown was able to bond out.
